GOTW: Bigtrak

BigtrakThis week’s Gadget of the Week fits in very nicely with our current 80s Icons theme (what a lucky coincidence that was!), as I bring to you a toy from the 80s which has enjoyed a recent revival.

Bigtrak was originally released in 1979 and went on to become a popular boy’s toy during the early 80s. For those who don’t already know, this six-wheeled tank features a keypad and memory, allowing it to be programmed with a short sequence of movements.

Up to 16 steps can be programmed in a single sequence, but each sequence can be set to repeat on a loop. Use the simple programming commands – such as go forward five lengths or turn right 30 degrees – to plot a course around the livingroom, while trying to creep up on and attack the cat with Bigtrak’s photo beam weapon.

Not exactly cutting-edge technology by today’s standards, but definitely a great gift for a man of a certain age who may like to relive part of his childhood!
