This month on WONS Tech we’re celebrating all things 80s, from iconic toys and films to classic retro arcade games. We kicked off on Monday by revisiting Space Invaders – the first of our ‘This Week’s 80s Game‘ features. If you missed it you can catch up now by clicking here.
But the first of the iconic toys we’re taking a look at is Rubik’s Cube. Although invented in 1974 by Hungarian professor of architecture ErnÅ‘ Rubik, this toy really took the world by storm in the early 80s when Rubik licensed his design to the Ideal Toy Company.
Some people have been able to complete the puzzle in a matter of seconds. I, however, can only remember completing it once, and I think it took me something like two weeks.
During the past three decades, Rubik’s Cube has gone on to become the world’s best-selling puzzle game and, in more recent years, its retro appeal has sparked a surge of great spin-off gadgets.
From money boxes to mugs and speakers to salt and pepper shakers, take a look at some of the best below!
